Ellen and I try to visit Ellen’s parents in Hilton Head on a regular basis. They are really wonderful people, I am lucky to know them, and they are fun to be with (and visiting Hilton Head even if one does not play golf is pretty good also).
Lately we have switched back to driving from flying down taking the opportunity to see sights on the way that in the past we either drove by or flew over.
When we go next in June, we plan to see minor league baseball games both going there and coming home.
On the way there we will stop over in Salem, VA, to see the Salem Red Sox, http://www.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t414, play the Lynchburg Hillcats (farm team for the Braves, which should provide a clue as to which team I will be rooting for), http://www.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t481.
These are two Class High-A teams in the Carolina League. We will be seeing the game at LewisGale Field, http://www.stadiumjourney.com/stadiums/lewisgale-field-at-salem-memorial-baseball-stadium-s312/.
On the way home we will have a special treat, being able to see the South Atlantic League, slogan The League of Choice, All-Star game held at the home of the Hickory Crawdads, http://www.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t448, in Hickory, NC.
The game will be held in L.P. Frans Stadium, http://www.stadiumjourney.com/stadiums/l.p.-frans-stadium-s223, and will feature many special events.
Sadly one of the important ones we will miss is the Fans vs All-Star Cornhole contest. For those who do not realize it, there actually is (of course) a national cornhole organization which sponsors the World Championships (in 2014, the IX will be held), http://americancornhole.com/; slogan “We Are Cornhole” as demonstrated in the inspirational video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWYYK0PLAkI.
And for the true fan, The Cornhole Song by Rhett & Link, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Io8X4pz_QJ0.
