So last night was the finale to the TV show, How I Met Your Mother.
As some of you know I only on a regular basis watch four TV ‘shows’ on a regular basis:
- Hockey games
- Baseball games (and wasn’t the Nationals season opener something)
- The Big Bang Theory (as I tell people I was not as smart as they are, but I ate at their lunch table in high school)
- The Game of Thrones (there is nothing that gratuitous sex and violence will not improve)
However, from time to time I have watched How I Met Your Mother and when I did generally enjoyed it, though evidently regular watchers got involved in story lines that I just did not appreciate. In addition, Neil Patrick Harris, who is one of the major actors on the series, is part of the extended Firefly/Serenity family having starred in Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog with Mal, I mean Nathan Fillion, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUvPfZqEftI.
In any event, last night I turned on the last part of the last episode of HIMYM (as it it sometimes is abbreviated) which I personally found unsatisfying and which evidently has caused both strongly positive and negative feelings. A good write-up that captured my opinion is http://thefederalist.com/2014/04/01/how-i-was-in-love-with-your-stepmom-long-before-i-met-your-mother/?utm_source=The+Federalist+List&utm_campaign=6146fe8f17-RSS_DAILY_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_cfcb868ceb-6146fe8f17-64136661. The subtitle “Titanic had a happier ending.” gives you a hint as to the sense of the column.
That reminded me of what I still feel is the greatest ending of any TV series, the finale of the Bob Newhart show, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McVWkGWMHKI

Did you see the Breaking Bad alternate ending? It pays homage to the Bob Newhart ending. http://youtu.be/GtYNX3JWzjc
I am just working my way through Breaking Bad on my Netflix (DVD to home of all things) subscription – now finishing up Season 1. I’ll look forward to seeing both endings when I get to them.
