We have a blended family. My daughters and wife have Macs and I have a PC.
In fact, if you recall the Mac/PC ads, compiled here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZSBWbnmGrE, you will recall how cool the Mac guy was and how uncool the PC guy was, that basically describes us.
At home we have continued to upgrade our compute power. We all have smartphones (everyone else has iPhones and iPads, I have Android both).
But one thing we have never changed is our direct to our house phone line. As Ellen keeps pointing out that when power has gone out, which it does from time to time, having at least one line direct connected means at least it works. In addition, at least for a while the 911 calling seemed a bit more likely to result in someone showing up (though happily we have never had to call 911 thus far).
The other day however to my complete surprise Ellen has decided that while Comcast will never as an organization be invited to birthdays they have become reliable enough (low bar) that as of tomorrow (assuming Comcast actually shows up) we will become a Comcast triple-play customer; getting Internet access and cable TV already.
The remarkable thing is that at least for a year, by adding voice to the package our monthly charges go DOWN. I asked the Comcast person I was talking to if there were any other services we could add that would cause the bill to go down more but evidently call help staff are not hired by Comcast based on their sense of humor.
After Apple comes out with the 5S/6/<whatever> in September we will end up a Comcast customer for everything inside the house and a Verizon customer for everything wireless (we will move Ellen over to Verizon when we upgrade her phone, I am determined to stay with Android based devices). As I tell people while they do not realize it when they buy a smart device, they are deciding whether to worship at the God of Apple or the God of Google. In our house we hedge our bets.
